Terry has led the Center - employing 200 people – since June 2014. The organization has a broad mission impact, from basic research at the forefront of materials science to materials engineering with enduring impact to Sandia’s mission areas. Prior to this position, Terry was the Chief of Operations and Deputy to the Vice President for the Energy and Climate Program Area at Sandia. Prior management responsibilities include the senior manager of the Materials Science R&D Group, acting senior manager of the Power Sources Technology Group, and manager of the Thermal and Fluid Processes, Power Source Component Development, and Long-Life Power Sources departments. A 1984 graduate of the University of Florida with a PhD in Chemical Engineering, Terry’s research focused on the high-temperature synthesis of electronic materials, determining their crystal structures, and measuring their anomalous electronic and thermal transport properties. He was named a Distinguished Member of Sandia’s Technical Staff in 2004. Terry is the Sandia campus executive for the University of Florida, and serves on external advisory boards at UF, NC State, Ga. Tech, and the University of New Mexico. He is active in the Materials Research Society, chairing and serving on numerous committees and subcomittees.
